Inspiration Grant

Inspiration Grant

Our Stories – Tara Varney

In 2012, I was moved to try a new process of creating theatre, and writing the proposal for an Inspiration Grant was an incredible exercise in forcing me to solidify my concept in writing. I applied for it because I felt we needed to be certain that at least some of the expenses of mounting a theatrical production would be covered, so I could concentrate better on the creation of the play, Sexing Hitler.

Receiving an Inspiration Grant was validation that the direction I wanted to move in was compelling to others. It let us know that people were paying attention, and were interested in what we were doing. It added weight and credibility to our project, and it motivated me to challenge myself even more. It gave me permission to cross artistic barriers and think in new ways, not just for that project, but for other generative work that has followed.

I am honored, and deeply grateful, to have received an Inspiration Grant.
